After a quick start, the game slowed down tremendously, but had a crazy ending. Let’s break it down.
What a great cycle game on the left wing side, McAvoy cuts down, nails the feed to Marchand, with a backhand tap-in.
Woof. Krug CAN’T turn over the puck like that. It was the first shot that Rask saw all night.
A period of lackluster play from both sides. Much more what I was expecting out of these two teams: hard, heavy hockey.
Again, a period of not a lot. Not too many shots a side, both goaltenders playing a sharp game
For as sluggish a last two frames this game had, it was flipped on its head for overtime. Almost immediately, matching penalties were assessed to Bergeron and Doughty for slashing and goalie interference, respectively. Rask got bumped in the crease once more by Alex Iafallo. Rask stopped Tyler Toffoli point blank. Bjork had a breakaway stopped by Jonathan Quick. Charlie McAvoy had two prime chances with one-time feeds from Marchand. Then, the unthinkable. An icing by the Bruins with 0.9 left on the clock, and Toffoli with the biggest rip on a clean face-off win for the Kings. Bang. Game over.
So what’s next? Monday, the B’s travel to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets, 7p.m. puck drop.
