Earlier today, the Bruins lost goalie Malcolm Subban to the Vegas Golden Knights, put Torey Krug and Austin Czarnik on IR, and sent Rob O’Gara to Providence.
You know what that means: we (probably) have an opening night roster!
Those moves got the Bruins down to 23 players, the requirement for opening night.
Barring some weird happenings, here are the Bruins who will take part in the opening night festivities:
Bruins forwards (14)
Noel Acciari, David Backes, Matt Beleskey, Patrice Bergeron, Anders Bjork, Jake DeBrusk, David Krejci, Sean Kuraly, Brad Marchand, Riley Nash, David Pastrnak, Tim Schaller, Ryan Spooner and Frank Vatrano.
Bruins defensemen (7)
Brandon Carlo, Zdeno Chara, Matt Grzelcyk, Charlie McAvoy, Adam McQuaid, Kevan Miller and Paul Postma.
Bruins goalies (2)
Anton Khudobin and Tuukka Rask.
Some notes:
- It appears that Grzelcyk beat out Rob O’Gara for that “Possible Torey Krug Fill-in” role. Expect those guys to battle for that spot while Krug is out, as call-ups from Providence are always an option.
- That’s a whole lot of youth in the forward corps. It’ll be exciting to see what Bjork and DeBrusk can do, as both are likely to play in the top six (at least at some point).
- No surprises in net. Here’s to hoping Khudobin can shoulder a bit more of the load this season.
What do you think? Does this roster inspire any confidence, or are you iffy on this group?
