Cehlarik sent down; is there a trade coming?

Peter Cehlarik’s first NHL stint was a good one.

In two games, he recorded two points and generally looked comfortable with the NHL game, at times looking like one of the more dangerous players on the ice...

...all of which makes this even more surprising:

Huh.

There are a few reasons why Cehlarik would be sent back to the P-Bruins:

  1. He ate Don Sweeney’s breakfast by accident, and Sweeney is mad.
  2. The Bruins want him to play regularly during the bye week.
  3. There’s a trade coming and the Bruins need the roster spot.

I can understand the “let him play this week” argument, as there are no practices allowed during the bye week.

However, there might be something to be said for letting the kid hang around with his big league teammates during the off week to build some chemistry.

The other possibility, of course, is that the Bruins have a trade brewing and need an open roster spot.

These rumors are fueled by Sweeney and Avs GM Joe Sakic having a long conversation between periods last night.

Throw in stuff like this from a fairly reputable source...

...and you’ve got yourself the perfect recipe for some RUMORMONGERING!

In all likelihood, the move is centered around getting Cehlarik playing time during the off week, as he hasn’t been put through the same schedule grind as the rest of the NHLers.

However, you can’t help but wonder if there’s something else going on.

What do you think?
