Bruins reportedly tried to land Vrbata, Kulikov

We knew that the Bruins were connected to these players, but not how close they were to acquiring them!

Now that the trade deadline is over, we can reflect on the small acquisition of Drew Stafford, not the flashiest grab but a success in what Sweeney’s philosophy and expectations of this team show. However, the Bruins were connected to Arizona Coyotes forward Radim Vrbata and Buffalo Sabres defenseman Dmitry Kulikov (or as Jack pronounces it, kul-YI-kov). According to Sportsnet’s Elliot Friedman, Sweeney seemed to be very close to acquiring the veteran forward.

We can only wonder what fell apart to keep Vrbata in Arizona if other teams believed he would land in the Black and Gold. The Kulikov buzz sounds like Sweeney was merely kicking the tires on him, certainly not as heavily invested in this move as the Vrbata deal. Alas, we go forward with Stafford in hand and the hopes the Bruins can make the playoffs.
