Bruins vs. Blackhawks Preseason 9/25 Primer and Roster

With the first round of cuts made after the team’s last preseason game vs Detroit, it’s coming down to crunch time!

NHL: Chicago Blackhawks at Boston Bruins Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Time: 7pm EST

The Place: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts

Place to Watch: NESNPlus, WGN

Place to Listen: 98.5 The Sports Hub, 720 WGN

Opposing SBNation Blog: Second City Hockey

The Preview:

The B’s took a tough loss at Little Caesers Arena, which made it even tougher to discern who would be cut and who would stay up with the big club. Now that the first eliminations have been made, it seems clear that the winner of the backup goaltender competition is Anton Khudobin. We still may see Malcolm Subban start one or two more games in the preseason, but as Cassidy said, “Anton has done nothing to lose that backup as of right now.” Keep an eye out for rosters later today, but this tilt against Chicago proves to be a good measuring stick game for those guys sitting on the bubble.

Questions:

  • Who will come out as the solution for losing Torey Krug for a few weeks? Matt Grzelcyk proved himself worthy of at least part of that ice time over the last few games, but it’s still all up in the air.
  • Have the refs really taken down the level of slashing penalties? It was absurd enough to merit a memo from DOPS, so let’s see how it takes effect.
  • Who breaks out tonight and shows they’re worthy of a roster spot? After tonight, there are only two preseason games left. It’s time to make it or break it!

Roster:

At Forward: Noel Acciari, David Backes, Matt Beleskey, Patrice Bergeron, Anders Bjork, Ryan Fitzgerald, Sean Kuraly, Brad Marchand, Riley Nash, David Pastrnak, Tim Schaller, Ryan Spooner

Defense: Brandon Carlo, Matt Grzelcyk, Jeremy Lauzon, Charlie McAvoy, Rob O'Gara, Paul Postma

Goalies: Anton Khudobin, Malcolm Subban
