Backes named NHL’s third star of the week

A nice honor for the surging winger.

A nice way for David Backes to start the new year: the American forward was named the league’s third star of the week due to his great run over the Bruins’ last three games.

Backes recorded three goals and three assists for six points in the Bruins’ three games last week, with the Bruins taking five of six points in those games.

Backes has been great since returning from surgery, and has been key to the Bruins’ recent run of production from the third line.

Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets was the week’s first star, while William Karlsson of the Vegas Golden Knights took second star.

Congrats to Backes, who also welcomed his first son to the world last week. A big week for Backes and his family, and a great way to start 2018.
