While it’s true that the bookmakers out in Las Vegas aren’t able to see the future, it’s always interesting to see where they see each team’s Stanley Cup odds at the beginning of the season.
It’s often an indication of how much action they’re taking on a particular team, so consider it a heat index of sorts. If nothing else, it’s a fun way to lose a little money (if you, uh, look off-shore).
Bovada sent out their final set of Stanley Cup odds before the season begins, and it looks like Vegas still feels pretty good about the Bruins.
Here are the top five:
1. Toronto Maple Leafs - 7/1
2. Tampa Bay Lightning - 17/2
3. Winnipeg Jets - 17/2
4. Nashville Predators - 10/1
T-5. Boston Bruins - 11/1
T-5. San Jose Sharks - 11/1
Not bad! Tied for fifth in the NHL...but third in their own division. Yikes! The Atlantic could be a buzz-saw this year, at least until Toronto finds some way to screw things up for themselves.
Detroit was last on the list at 250/1, preceded by Ottawa (200/1) and a mix of Vancouver, Montreal and Arizona (all at 100/1).
Always good to see Montreal at the bottom of the list!
Bovada gave Toronto the best odds of winning the Atlantic Division at 8/5, but they had the Bruins and Lightning tied for second at 19/10.
