You wanted a better effort, and you got it.

The first one stunk! The second one was more like what we hope to see this season.

TO THE HIGHLIGHTS.

(No streamables tonight, sorry. These are embedded NHL.com highlights, so if you’re on Apple News, you might not see them.)

Zdeno Chara got things started after taking a beautiful pass from Brad Marchand. The big man out-waited Carter Hutton before putting it home. 1-0 Bruins.

Speaking of great Brad Marchand passes, Ryan Donato was the beneficiary of one here. Tic, tac, PP goal. 2-0 Bruins.

The Sabres turned up the heat a bit in the early stages of the second, but the Bruins were able to hold down the fort. Jaroslav Halak didn’t face nearly as many Grade-A chances as he and Tuukka Rask did last night, but he stood tall when called upon.

Late in that period, David Pastrnak found himself all alone out front, and didn’t miss. 3-0 Bruins.

Patrice Bergeron finished things off with an empty netter after a great effort along the wall by...you guessed it: Brad Marchand. Bruins win, 4-0.
