Brad Marchand has seemingly found yet another gear in recent weeks, averaging well over a point a game and carrying a depleted Bruins team. The league must have noticed as well because he has been named the 2nd Star of the week by the NHL.
SECOND STAR: @Bmarch63 ranked second in the NHL with 26 points in March, highlighted by his third career hat trick, fourth career five-point performance and three OT goals. #NHLStats pic.twitter.com/c5Sfk6cKaU— NHL Public Relations (@PR_NHL) April 1, 2018
His points per game is the highest in the NHL at 1.33 and if he hadn’t missed time to injury and suspension he would arguably be a Hart trophy finalist. The points aren’t just empty noise either, with his numerous OT winners and other key goals. This isn’t his first Star either, having been named the 2nd star of the week for the week ending on March 12th, as well as the 3rd star for the week ending Jan. 22nd. He doesn’t just collect stars of the week and month either, having been named to his first All Star game in 2017-18, scoring a goal and 2 assists in the event. He was even named the 1st Star in Stanley Cup of Chowder’s inaugural podcast episode this week, which is obviously the most impressive feat of them all.
He was joined by Connor McDavid (1st Star, 13g-15a-28pts) and John Gibson (3rd Star, 9-3-1, .931 Sv%). Other Bruins honored this season include Patrice Bergeron (2nd Star - January, 1st - week ending Jan 8th), David Backes (3rd Star - Week ending Jan. 1st) and Tuukka Rask (1st Star - December, 1st Star - Week ending Dec. 24th).
Congrats on yet another accolade in a career year Brad!
