Bruins v Maple Leafs Game 5 Recap: Late Surge Not Enough

A tough loss at home tonight, but a lot of lessons to take for Monday.

First Period:

This goal is a product of a lack of net front defense. Matthews with the wrap, Brown almost untouched for the rebound. 1-0 TOR.

Oh, the stretch pass. Killed the defense all night. Kadri finds Johnsson behind Chuck with #73 spinning the wrong way. 2-0 TOR.

Second Period:

A bounce the Bruins’ way? Could it be? Jake DeBrusk’s shot kicks off the back boards right to Backes, who chips it in on his backhand. Could the Bruins be back in this? 2-1 TOR

The answer was no. Again, passing stretches out the B’s defense, Bozak goes high, glove-side. Yikes. Rask does need to have this one. 3-1 TOR

Aaaaaand there it is. JVR with perfectly placed hands in tight. Bring on the 4-1 jokes. 4-1 TOR

But wait? What's this? Matt Grzelcyk with the moves and Sean Kuraly slams one home? No. Don't think that. 4-2 TOR

Third Period:

BUT WAIT ACCIARI BANKS A SOFT ANGLE GOAL OFF OF ANDERSEN'S SKATE COULD THIS BE HAPPENING ALL OVER AGAIN? 4-3 TOR

Unfortunately, despite 45 shots, six power play chances, and a hell of a lot of opportunities otherwise, the Leafs hang on. Game 6. Monday. 7pm.
