The news we were told to expect has finally come:

Yes, Vaakanainen is now in the system on his first contract, worth $925,000.

Vaakanainen had 11 points in 43 games with SaiPa in Lappeenranta, Finland, as well as a combined 7 in 32 games with various forms of the Finnish National team. Vaakanainen has been reiterated to be one of the Bruins prospects they seem highest on, so hopefully we get to see more of what he’s made of once Development Camp rolls around.

I for one, from watching the world juniors, and staying up late to watch at least one or two SaiPa games, this guy is gonna endear himself to fans...even if they’ll have trouble spelling and pronouncing the name.

Welcome Urho Vaakanainen to the Boston Bruins!
