The Bruins captain announced his win on his Instagram today!

In our player grades, we gave Zdeno Chara a glowing review in the B+/A- range because of his contributions to the Boston Bruins, but people often forget that, even if the NHL won’t allow him to actually participate, he’s still a stalwart for the Slovakian hockey community.

And about an hour ago on his instagram page, Chara revealed that the Slovakian Ice Hockey Federation had hardware in store for him for his 2017-18 season.

We here at SCoC do not speak Slovak, which we admit is a failing on the part of ourselves. One can assume what he’s saying is not too dissimilar from the caption, in which he thanks his family, his teammates, his coaches, and everyone else who could possibly have contributed to him being who he is.

Chara is no stranger to his home country handing him trophies, as he’s won player of the year 4 times previous in his career, including a crazy three year defense between 2011 and 2013.

Here were, according to the website, the final tallies for both categories:

2017-18 Slovakian Hockey Player of the Year:

  1. Zdeno Chara
  2. Tomáš Tatar
  3. Richard Pánik
  4. Marek Čiliak
  5. Ladislav Nagy

Róberta Švehla Award for Best Slovakian Defenseman in 2017-18:

  1. Zdeno Chára
  2. Andrej Sekera
  3. Martin Fehérváry

With a field like that, it’s hard to see any other way he could’ve lost.

Congratulations to Zdeno Chara for being honored and for winning both awards!
