The Bruins announced three roster moves this afternoon: Paul Carey, Trent Frederic, and Urho Vaakanainen have all been sent to Providence.
Carey was just recalled yesterday, while Frederic and Vaakanainen have each been up for a few days.
All three played in last night’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals, albeit in very limited roles: Carey played just 6:22, Frederic played just 4:16, and Vaakanainen was the grizzled veteran of the bunch, skating 19:19 (7 minutes more than Connor Clifton, interestingly).
With Torey Krug on IR and Vaakanainen down, one can’t help but wonder if Kevan Miller may be almost ready to return. He was skating in a regular jersey late last week.
The forwards aren’t really as surprising, as their demotions likely just mean that Brett Ritchie and/or Jake DeBrusk are just about back to full health.
Neither Carey nor Frederic was really given enough time to make a real splash, so their call-ups are a bit of a wash. For Vaakanainen, I thought he acquitted himself well. There were hiccups here and there, but overall his game was pretty solid, given his inexperience.
Plus, he didn’t get victimized by a cheap shot, so...baby steps!
