Providence Bruins Weekend Recap 2/8 - 2/10

With four out of six points, the P-Bruins had another promising weekend.

The Providence Bruins earned four out of six possible points over the weekend, but saw their 12-game point streak come to an end on Saturday. Overall, it was another strong weekend for the P-Bruins as they continue to climb the ladder in the Atlantic Division. Here is a recap of the weekend’s games.

Friday, February 8 vs. Bridgeport, 2-1 Win:

The P-Bruins carried a 2-0 lead into the third period on Friday and hung on for a 2-1 win after Steve Bernier cut the score in half at 15:22. Providence received goals from Jordan Szwarz and Connor Clifton, and Zane McIntyre made 25 saves on 26 shots to pick up the victory.

Saturday, February 9 vs. Bridgeport, 4-2 Loss:

After a goalless first period, the P-Bruins jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second off goals from Emil Johansson and Cameron Hughes. However, the Sound Tigers scored four straight goals in the final two periods to hand Providence its first regulation loss since January 5. Dan Vladar made 22 saves on 25 shots in the defeat.

Sunday, February 10 vs. Syracuse, 4-0 Win:

Sunday’s matinee against the Crunch was a big test for the P-Bruins, and they took advantage of it. McIntyre led the way with a 27-save shutout performance and Karson Kuhlman buried two goals to help Providence earn a 4-0 win over Syracuse. Cameron Hughes and Ryan Donato also scored for the P-Bruins.

Looking Ahead:

The P-Bruins will play at home this weekend against the Toronto Marlies on Friday, the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday, and the Springfield Thunderbirds on Sunday.

Standings Update:

With 59 points, the P-Bruins are third in the Atlantic Division and just three points behind the second-place Sound Tigers.

Scoring Leaders:

  1. Paul Carey: 10 goals, 26 assists, 36 points in 38 games with Belleville and Providence
  2. Peter Cehlarik: 10 goals, 19 assists, 29 points in 39 games (currently on recall in Boston)
  3. Cameron Hughes: 13 goals, 15 assists, 28 points in 50 games

Goaltending Stats:

Zane McIntyre: 19-8-3, 2.52 goals against average, 0.897 save percentage

Dan Vladar: 7-9-4, 2.69 goals against average, 0.902 save percentage

Other Notes:

  • Goaltender Zane McIntyre has won 11 games in a row and picked up his first shutout of the season over the weekend.
  • Gemel Smith had four assists over the weekend to give him 21 points in 22 games with Providence.
