Providence Bruins Weekend Recap 2/22 - 2/24

They got three out of six points, but it wasn’t a pretty weekend for Providence.

For the second weekend in a row, the Providence Bruins had a tough go of things. Here is a recap of the weekend’s games.

Friday, February 22 vs. Bridgeport, 5-4 Overtime Loss:

The P-Bruins led three times in the back and forth tilt against the Sound Tigers on Friday, but suffered a 5-4 overtime loss. Paul Carey (2), Gemel Smith, and Jordan Szwarz scored for Providence. Zane McIntyre made 22 saves on 27 shots.

Saturday, February 23 vs. Hartford, 3-2 Overtime Win:

Providence got back in the win column with an overtime victory against the Wolf Pack on Saturday. Lee Stempniak and Gemel Smith scored in regulation and Szwarz netted the game-winner in overtime. Dan Vladar made 25 saves on 27 shots.

Sunday, February 24 vs. Hartford, 4-1 Loss:

For the most part, the P-Bruins have played well at home this season. However, Sunday’s matinee was a different story. Led by a Steven Fogarty hat-trick, the Wold Pack handed Providence arguably its worst home loss of the season.

Smith potted Providence’s only goal and Vladar made 25 saves on 29 shots in the loss.

Looking Ahead:

Providence will kickoff its March schedule this weekend against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, and Springfield on Saturday and Sunday.

Standings Update:

The P-Bruins are fourth in the Atlantic Division with 64 points and hold a four-point lead over the fifth-place Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Scoring Leaders:

  1. Paul Carey: 13 goals, 26 assists, 39 points in 44 games with Belleville and Providence
  2. Jordan Szwarz: 18 goals, 11 assists, 29 points in 49 games
  3. Peter Cehlarik: 10 goals, 19 assists, 29 points in 39 games (currently on recall in Boston)

Goaltending Stats:

Zane McIntyre: 20-9-4, 2.62 goals against average, 0.893 save percentage

Dan Vladar: 8-11-4, 2.73 goals against average, 0.902 save percentage

Other Notes:

  • In 4 games this season, Lee Stempniak has two goals and two assists. He cleared waivers on Monday after signing with the Bruins and will be assigned back to Providence.
  • Gemel Smith continues to be one of the more consistent producers on the P-Bruins, as the forward had three goals and an assist over the weekend.
  • Jakub Zboril had two assists over the weekend.
