Prior to today’s game, the Bruins and NESN announced that Chris Wagner is the winner of this year’s NESN 7th Player Award. Finally, they got one kind of right!
Wagner was the most logical choice for the award, as he’s having a career year and has become a bit of a fan favorite due to the way he plays. Considering he was signed as a lower-impact guy before the season, his 12 goals have certainly been a welcome surprise.
The good thing is that this time, the winner is a less heralded guy, and one who probably embodies the spirit of the award more than most have in recent years.
Considering the last three winners were Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand, it’s about time a grinder got the nod.
As part of the award, Wagner will receive $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.
