It wasn’t the strongest week for the P-Bruins, as the team earned just two of six possible points. They were shutout 2-0 by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday before traveling to Syracuse for Friday’s game. Here is a recap of the weekend’s games.
Friday, March 29 vs. Syracuse, 3-2 Win:
Led by Lee Stempniak’s three points, the P-Bruins took down the North Division-leading Syracuse Crunch on Friday. Stempniak scored his fifth goal of the season in the second to give Providence a 1-0 lead into the third, where Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and Gemel Smith both found the back of the net. Dan Vladar made 18 saves on 20 shots to earn his 12th win of the season.
Saturday, March 30 vs. Hershey, 2-1 Loss:
With Providence and Hershey battling for third in the Atlantic Division, Saturday’s matchup was an important one for both teams. The P-Bruins struck first, with Stempniak scoring just 2:15 into the opening period. They hung on to the one-goal lead until the third, where a two goal outburst propelled the Bears to a victory. Zane McIntyre made 17 saves on 19 shots.
The P-Bruins will take part in a home-and-home series against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday and Saturday before returning home to host the Utica Comets on Sunday. Providence will play four of its remaining six games at home.
