Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson is going back to Sweden

Not ideal, but he should be back.

The Bruins announced this afternoon that forward Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson is leaving the organization to sign a contract in the SHL, the top pro league in his native Sweden.

Per the team, Forsbacka Karlsson will sign with Vaxjo.

The Bruins' website feature a quote from GM Don Sweeney, who indicated that he's had ongoing discussions with JFK on the subject. Sweeney said that JFK intends to play for the Bruins, but that being closer to family is the right move for him at this time.

The Bruins retain his rights, so don't be surprised if he's back in the mix after the 2019-2020 SHL season ends.

It's a bit of a disappointment for a guy who was expected to challenge for an NHL spot this season, but one can't fault him for wanting to be closer to home.

Hopefully he gets good reps in Sweden and is back stateside soon.
