Weekly women’s hockey wrap-up: January 27

A look at the weekend's action in local women's hockey.

Boston College Athletics

It’s that time of the week, time to check in on the state of women’s hockey here in Boston.

Boston Pride (20-1-0) Standings: 1st (0 Points behind) *Clinched*

Last Week: L 3-4 @ Minnesota Whitecaps (1/25), W 4-2 @ Minnesota Whitecaps (1/26)

Next Week: No Games

The practically perfect Pride have clinched the regular season crown but have ended their winning streak. It remains to be seen if this will be a blessing in disguise to keep them sharp or a portent for future issues. They have some time off to rebound and gather for their final three games of the regular season.

Boston College (13-10-3, 12-8-2 HEA) SBN Poll: NR (-1) HEA: 3rd (10 Points behind)

Last week: W 2-1 OT v Providence (1/24), L 2-5 @ Providence (1/25)

Coming Week: v Holy Cross (1/31)

The Eagles got a bit lucky taking Providence in OT to win the season series but then threw that way in the trip to Rhode Island as they lost pretty handily. They are no longer in contention for the Hockey East regular season title and have their hopes of the NCAAs slipping rapidly. They only play bottom of the table Holy Cross this week as they look to get revenge on BU next week in the Beanpot.

Boston University (17-5-3, 12-5-3 HEA) SBN Poll: 8 (-) HEA: 2nd (9 Points behind)

Last week: T 1-1 OT v Merrimack (1/24), W 6-3 @ Merrimack (1/25)

Coming Week: @ Northeastern (1/28), v Vermont (1/31)

Well that didn’t go according to plan. By all rights the Terriers should have walked away with four easy points this past weekend instead they had to work hard to get three. This all but takes them out of contention in Hockey East but a midweek road game at Matthews has become must win for Hockey East and their falling PWR stock.

Harvard University (11-8-1, 10-4-1 ECAC, 6-1-1 Ivy) SBN Poll: 10 (-) ECAC: 2nd (5 Points behind) Ivy: 1st (0 Points behind)

Last week: W 2-1 @ St. Lawrence (1/24), L 0-4 @ Clarkson (1/25)

Coming Week: v Dartmouth (1/31)

A win at St. Lawrence was a welcome respite, but it was short lived as their trip to Clarkson was a disaster. This weekend should be a easy win for both ECAC and Ivy contention.

Northeastern University (21-3-1, 18-2-0 HEA) SBN Poll: 2 (+1) HEA: 1st (0 Points behind)

Last week: W 4-0 @ Vermont (1/24), W 10-2 @ Vermont (1/25)

Coming Week: v Boston University (1/28), v Connecticut (1/31)

Like the Pride the Huskies lost their impressive streak at 315 minutes of shutout hockey. Though the offense was more than capable as they unloaded 10 goals on all three of Vermont’s goalies. If the Huskies manage to beat the Terriers and then either tie or beat UConn they will win the Hockey East regular season title, though any ties or losses the rest of the way would hurt them in a big way later.

Record This Week: 6-3-1
