It is Wednesday, my dudes.
The week hasn’t exactly been filled with much Bruins-related content to discuss. Karson Kuhlman is back in the mix, which is cool, man.
Other than that...crickets. Zdeno Chara remains unsigned. Jake DeBrusk remains unsigned. Big-name targets remain unsigned. World keeps spinnin’.
The hockey world in general has had some news this week, however, as “voice of NBC” Doc Emerick announced his retirement from broadcasting.
Personally, I like Emerick. I know plenty of people get annoyed by his wild vocabulary and folksy style, but I think he’s great. Myyyyyyyyyyyyyy goodness!
Emerick was on the broadcast during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, when the Bruins played the Blackhawks. That photo above was taken during a happy moment in Game 6 of that Final, before...you know.
Those same Blackhawks made some waves on Tuesday when the released what was essentially a “we’re rebuilding!!!!” message to their fans.
The message read, in part:
We were already the youngest team in the 2020 playoffs and several Blackhawks experienced that intensity for the first time; this will help to further establish a culture that embraces the grind of improvement driven by competitors who are relentless, engaged and motivated by a team-first mentality to win.
As our young players develop and learn how to win consistently, they’ll make some mistakes. Inevitably, we’ll miss the mark sometimes, too, but we’ll communicate openly with you on this journey together.
We know that what comes next must be more than just words, and that inspires us.
A bold move. It was reminiscent of that bizarre “we have no words and we know you don’t want to hear them” Tweet from the Lightning after they got swept by Columbus.
Weird, wild stuff.
Anyways, what’s on tap?
Today’s highlight
Speaking of 2013, remember when Adam McQuaid scored the goal that would be the game-winner in the final game of the Eastern Conference Final? Good times.
Today’s discussion topic
The World Series started last night. Who ya got?
