Morning Skate: Standing pat

Maybe.

Tuesday!

Yesterday featured a press conference with Bruins GM Don Sweeney, and while he didn’t really reveal much, there were still some interesting tidbits to discuss.

There was plenty of movement around the league yesterday as well, and we should probably expect to see more of that action today.

Some moves include Flyers defenseman Matt Niskanen retiring, which opens some decent cap space for Philly, Jack Johnson being bought out by the Penguins, and Ryan Donato being traded to the San Jose Sharks.

Speaking of the Sharks, they also acquired goalie Devan Dubnyk from the Minnesota Wild.

Interestingly, the Sharks still have brief Bruin Martin Jones on the books at $5.75 million AAV for another four years.

Remember the “Bruins should have kept Jones and traded Rask” crowd, or are you fortunate enough to have missed that phase?

Jones had a hot start in San Jose, but has struggled (to say the least) sense. He’s sported a sub-.900 save percentage for the past two seasons, and last year, his GAA hit 3.00. Yikes!

Glad of keep Rask.

Today’s highlight

It started off pretty promisingly for Ryan Donato, but I think it’s fair to say that the Bruins got the better end of that trade.

Today’s discussion topic

Any craziness expected at the Draft tonight, or do you see most teams standing pat?
