Morning Skate: Mid-January

Hey, it’s something!

Sorry about the lack of Morning Skate yesterday! I will be sure to mention it to myself during my annual performance review.

Yesterday, the NHL’s Board of Governors was supposed to meet, and then news came out of the league reportedly aiming for a January 13th start to the season.

It’s not January 1st, and even the 13th still seems a little unrealistic.

Today’s the 9th. If the league announces today that they’re back in business on the 13th, that leaves a month and 3 days to:

  • Call all of their players back
  • Have all players undergo the required testing/quarantine periods, per state/province regulations
  • Have a full training camp
  • Have at least a couple of exhibition games

Other than that, it’s all systems go!

To be fair, it’s likely that the NHL and NHLPA have been working on logistics like this behind the scenes for a while now, so it’s not like they’re starting from square one.

Still, it’s a lot...but it’s a big step in the right direction!

Today’s highlight

Sergei Samsonov ruled.

Today’s discussion topic

I know that we talked about Cam Neely in NHL94 a few weeks ago, but Sergei Samsonov in NHL06 was elite too because you just held down turbo the whole time.

Anyways, who’s the single best player in what video game year that you can think of?
