Women’s Beanpot Final preview: For all the beans

It’s time once again to award the most coveted trophy in Boston.

Northeastern @ Boston University

Season Series: NU 3-0

NU @ BU (2:1), BU @ NU (0:2), BU @ NU (1:2)

This season has brought three very close victories for NU over the Terriers.

Beanpot Championship History: NU 1-0

2012: NU 4 BU 3 OT

Boston University has only appeared in seven previous Beanpot Championships winning twice including last year. The only time these two teams met in a title game was actually in Walter Brown 8 years ago when NU broke their 15 year drought in an overtime thriller.

All Time Beanpot Results: NU Leads series 16-5-3

This game promises to be a close thriller. Neither team has shown any separation in their head to head matchups, though the Huskies have come out ahead each time.

These are the two teams everyone expected to be in this game. While NU is the clear favorite you do have to wonder how much home ice, and a good crowd for BU, will play a role. Also in play is BU having the trophy in hand while NU is in the midst of its third longest title drought.

Both teams have some prolific scoring options so this game is likely going to come down to the hottest goalie. Aerin Frankel has led NU to two straight Hockey East titles claiming the MVP both times. Meanwhile Corrine Schroeder is quietly putting together one of the best goaltending campaigns in the country and looks to become Boston University’s first Bertagna award winner with a Terrier win.

Prediction: NU 3 BU 1

The Huskies have just a little too much talent in all aspects of the game and are hungry to finally get their hands back on this trophy and stay near the top of the national polls and metrics.
