Yesterday USA Hockey gave us the first look at the players that will be representing the Stars and Stripes up in Nova Scotia at the end of next month. On the 23 player roster 11 have either played in Boston professionally, in college or both. Of the Beanpot schools only Harvard is not represented.
Up front there are a lot of familiar names including Alex Carpenter, Hilary Knight, Brianna Decker, and Kendal Coyne Schofield. Jesse Compher of BU and Haley Scamurra will be appearing for the second consecutive time on the US roster.
The blue line is dominated by Eagles both past and present. Longtime standout Kacey Bellamy of UNH leads the squad but the future is current Eagle Cayla Barnes as she makes her third appearance with the senior squad. Megan Keller and Emily Matheson (Pfalzer) will also be representing BC in Halifax.
In net the hero of Pyeongchang Maddie Rooney will likely be the workhorse, Alex Cavallini (Rigsby) makes what might be her last World Championship roster while Northeastern’s Aerin Frankel makes her debut.
Some noticeable omissions are Annie Pankowski up front, Kali Flanagan on defense and Nicole Hensley in net.
