The NHL announced this afternoon that defenseman Jeremy Lauzon has been suspended 2 games for his hit to the head of Derek Stepan of the Arizona Coyotes.
It would appear that the league felt that the hit deserved multiple games, despite Stepan remaining in the game and Lauzon having no history.
On the one hand, you can't blame the league for taking hits to the head seriously. However, the league is so inconsistent that you never know what you are going to get.
One hit gets a suspension, the other doesn't even get a penalty, the other gets a fine...wheel keeps spinning.
In this case, Lauzon definitely made contact with the head, and will pay the price.
Urho Vaakanainen will likely serve as the extra defenseman for the remainder of Lauzon's suspension.
