Ironically timed for SB Nation’s What If? Week, the NWHL has cancelled the 2019-2020 Isobel Cup championship that was postponed indefinitely back in March with a single game remaining. As a result this will always be a huge question in Pride history.
In addition to cancelling the game, the league has announce no champion will be named for this season. The Pride were the regular season champions with a record of 23-1 while their opponents the Minnesota Whitecaps finished in second place with a record of 17-5-2. The head to head series was won by the Pride at 3-1, the lone loss was on the road after Allie Thunstrom formerly of Boston College provided heroics to end the Pride’s bid for a perfect season.
Anyone who held tickets for the sold out cancelled championship game is able to either seek a refund or apply the money spent as credit towards season tickets for next year.
The league has also announce it is aiming for a mid November start date for the 2020-2021 season.
