Morning Skate: Jack in the box

A nice nod for Bruce Cassidy.

One more day until the weekend! Keep it up, you’re almost there.

Yesterday’s biggest piece of Bruins news was the announcement that head coach Bruce Cassidy won the Jack Adams Award as the league’s best coach in the 2019-2020 season.

Not that you all need reminding, but Cassidy coached the Bruins to the league’s best record in the regular season, so the win isn’t super surprising.

I don’t mean to take anything away from Cassidy, but it seems like the Adams Award almost always goes to the coach of the best team...which, you could argue, isn’t always the team with the best coaching job.

The Bruins nearly won the Cup in 2019. They returned just about the same roster. They were supposed to be good, and they were.

Cassidy did a good job, but you could argue that there are coaches who did more with less.

Still, it’s a results league, and Cassidy got the results before the votes were cast. You can’t really argue too much with that.

Today’s highlight

This was a fun series.

Today’s discussion topic

I just saw Alex Killorn’s cheapshot that earned him a game misconduct. This isn’t really a discussion topic, but Tampa is a cheap team. Discuss.
