The NHL continues to cobble together its plan for the next league year, announcing today that it has set dates for the 2020 NHL Draft and the beginning of free agency.
The 2020 Draft will be a virtual event, and will take place over the course of two days:
- Tuesday, October 7 - 7 PM: First Round
- Wednesday, October 8 - 11:30 AM: Second through Seventh Rounds
It’s gotta be a bit disappointing for the kids getting drafted this year, as instead of hearing their name called in an arena and heading up to the stage, they’ll hear it over a probably garbled Zoom connection. 2020!
The Bruins, as you know, don’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft. They’ll also be without their fourth-round pick.
Additionally, the league announced today that free agency will officially kick off on Friday, October 9 at noon.
As the clock strikes noon that day, all of the league’s unrestricted free agents will be free to sign wherever they wish.
Torey Krug is probably going to have himself a nice weekend on from the 10th to the 11th.
These dates are subject to change, but given that the events will be held virtually (or in the case of free agency, won’t be large group events), it’s a pretty good bet that they’ll be held as scheduled.
As of right now, the official beginning of the new league year is just under a month away!
