Nothing will slow the NHL from playing hockey outdoors - not even a pandemic!

We posted about it a few weeks back, and today, the league made it official: the Bruins will battle one of their new divisional foes, the Philadelphia Flyers, as part of the “NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe” event.

The game, scheduled for February 21, will air on NBC at 3 pm EST and both teams will don their Reverse Retro jerseys. The event will be without spectators and will also feature the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche locking horns on the February 20.

While we have traditionally seen outdoor games contested in historical stadiums, the Bruins will skate on the lakefront 18th fairway of the Edgewood Tahoe Resort, which hosts the PGA’s annual American Century Championship.

The concept of playing hockey on a golf course with mountains looming in the background is certainly quite scenic.

The game will mark the Bruins’ fourth outdoor game in franchise history, and the second time the B’s and Flyers will play each other outside.

As we all remember, the Bruins and Flyers famously faced off at Fenway Park in the 2010 Winter Classic, where Marco Sturm scored in overtime to give the Bruins a thrilling 2-1 victory.
