Preview: Boston Pride return to action against Buffalo Beauts

After a dud yesterday a win is needed.

No rest for the weary in the NWHL Bubble. The Pride will return to action against the Buffalo Beauts hoping to get in the win column.

Just the facts

When: Tonight, 7 PM

Where: Herb Brooks Arena, Lake Placid, NY

How to follow: Twitch: NWHL channel

Outlook

The Beauts lost to the Whale. That game was theoretically a 5th v 6th place game and the Whale won in a close one. This will leave the Beauts even hungrier and more desperate to get a win. The Pride losing today would mark a disastrous start and would put them squarely behind the eight-ball in terms of playoff seeding.

Story Lines

Diversified Scoring

The top line opened scoring yesterday and everyone else was quiet. The rookie line with Davis and Vanisova showed promise but Boston will need that pair to produce if it wants to hoist Isobel in 2 weeks time.

Special Teams

I mentioned this in the recap but 0-6 on the PP bears mentioning again. They NEED to get something going with an extra skater. They have too many weapons not to get at least one PP goal with the opportunities they had. On the flip side their PK was solid holding off all four opportunities against them.

Rebound and Recover

The Pride have not lost two games in a row since the close of the 2018-2019 season when ironically enough they lost to the Whitecaps in the regular season finale and then the Beauts in their playoff game.

Other Games

Minnesota White Caps v Toronto Six- 1PM

Metropolitan Riveters v Connecticut Whale -4PM

Prediction

Today is already must win for the Pride. A loss would drop them into a tie for 5th at best or possibly alone in 6th. The Beauts have also lost and are viewed as one of the weaker teams this season.
