After a day off the Pride return to action. Tonight they face Toronto Six for the first time in franchise history.
Just the facts
When: Tonight, 8:30 PM
Where: Herb Brooks Arena, Lake Placid, NY
How to follow: Twitch: NWHL channel
Outlook
The Six are now pretty desperate. After becoming the first team to be shutout in their opener they went on to take a 5-1 lead against Minnesota, only to let it slip away and lose in a shootout. Boston might have won a game but their opening loss took away their margin for error.
Story Lines
New Opponent
This is the first meeting between these franchises. Historically the Pride are 3-1 against an opponent for the first time. The lone loss? Connecticut back in season one.
Old Faces
Fans of women’s hockey will notice a very familiar face as the bench boss of the Six. Former Brown head coach and coach of the Boston Blades Digit Murphy currently leads Toronto. Emily Fluke who skated with the Pride last year is also currently on the Six roster.
Diversify the Scoring
The top line is on fire, we all expected this. The rookie line is finding their chemistry. The other six forwards have barely been heard from. The other two lines could use to make some noise and allow Coach Mara to roll deeper later to keep the legs fresh.
Other Games
Minnesota Whitecaps v Metropolitan Riveters - 5:30 PM
Prediction
They won when they needed to on Sunday, a loss tonight wouldn’t end their title hopes but would all but eliminate them from the top seed race. With the top two lines clicking and Selander likely back in the net, I don’t see the Six’s woes ending tonight.
