Game notes

  • Two preseason games to go! After tonight’s game, the Bruins will host the Capitals on Wednesday night, then will have almost ten days off before opening the regular season on October 16.
  • Bruce Cassidy mentioned last week that he’d likely go with a pretty AHL-heavy lineup tonight, which makes sense after seeing so many regulars against New York. The Bruins’ roster seems pretty set at this point, as there aren’t many open spots. Still, a game like tonight’s is a good audition for players looking to be that “next man up” in the event of injuries, slumps, etc.
  • It’ll be interesting to see how Cassidy handles Linus Ullmark after his performance against the Rangers. It’s silly to put too much stock into a preseason game, but you can’t help but think Ullmark could use a confidence boost heading into the regular season. He will reportedly get a chance to start one of the next two games...might not be a bad idea to make it tonight to shake off the Rangers game immediately.
  • The Flyers won their last preseason game, a 3-1 victory over the Capitals on Saturday night. That lineup was pretty NHL-heavy: Giroux, Couturier, Atkinson, Laughton, Provorov, etc. It wouldn’t be a stretch to guess that Philly’s lineup will probably be pretty prospect-heavy too.

See ya tonight!
