Morning Skate: Toast

An ugly one.

NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins Kathryn Riley-USA TODAY Sports

After last night’s debacle, I suppose the best thing we can say is at least today is Friday?

If you’re looking for a quick snapshot, I don’t think there’s a better play to sum up last night’s game than the one that is captured in the photo on this post.

Mike Matheson, a defenseman, absolutely burnt Jeremy Lauzon, skating past him like he had turbines on his skates and Lauzon was stuck in cement.

It was that kind of night, with the Penguins looking like they were playing on another level pretty much from the drop.

Where do we go from here? Well, in the immediate future, we go back to the Garden to try again against the same team tomorrow afternoon.

In some ways, it’s a good thing: get right back out there to try to shake off the cobwebs.

In other ways, it’s a bad thing: with confidence low and goals hard to come by, another game less than 48 hours later might not be the best medicine.

I guess we’ll see!
