Morning Skate: Good start

Score early, score often.

NHL: Boston Bruins at Washington Capitals Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Today marks the end of the work week, but we’re talking about good starts.

Last night saw two different kinds of good starts.

The Bruins had themselves a good start to the game, scoring just 33 seconds into the first period en route to a 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

Jeremy Swayman continued what’s been a good start to his NHL career as well, making 31 saves for his second consecutive win.

Will Swayman be the first goalie in league history to go 100-0? Yes, probably.

Thursday night was a big one for the Bruins, for a few different reasons: they beat the (formerly) East-leading Capitals, they got their second win in a row, and the Philadelphia Flyers lost to the New York Islanders in a shootout.

The Flyers are the Bruins’ next opponent, as the two teams will play for the third time in less than a week.

With Thursday’s results, the Bruins are six points up on Philly with two games in hand. A regulation win wouldn’t quite put Philly away, but it’d sure go a long way toward extinguishing those playoff hopes.

Might as well watch this again, right?

What’s on tap for the weekend? We’re supposed to have some decent early-Spring weather here in the Boston area.
