Morning Skate: Fresh start

A new week begins.

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-New York Islanders at Boston Bruins Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

I’ll be honest with you - I was looking for a picture of the Garden exterior to include with this post as a general “hey, we’re on to a new week and next season” type photo, but then this one popped up.

What is this guy doing? Was he trying to climb on the ice? How far did he get? Did he get kicked out?

So many questions.

Anyways, we’re on to a new week! The Islanders jumped out to a 1-0 series lead against the Lightning on Sunday, to the surprise of many.

It seems like this is a semifinals of consensus: Vegas will waltz past Montreal, and Tampa will stifle the Islanders.

If yesterday was any indication, the Islanders aren’t ready to bow to the Lightning; it’ll be interesting to see if Montreal can do the same.

Frankly, Montreal is probably the easiest-to-root-for team left in this.

I’m neutral about Vegas and don’t want to see Tampa win again. I guess there’s some credence to the “lose to the eventual Cup winners” theory about the Islanders, but I don’t really want to see them win either.

Montreal (while they are, of course, Montreal) is the scrappiest underdog left.

While most of you would consider it sacrilege to root for the Habs in any capacity, it’d sure be a hell of a story.

In Bruins news, Bruce Cassidy will hold his end-of-season media availability this morning. Expect a ton of questions on why he played Tuukka Rask (my guess is “he told me he was ready to go, so he was ready to go”), what went wrong, what he expects next season, etc.

What’s on tap for today?
