What a long, strange decade it’s been, eh?
Ten years ago this evening, the Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in 39 years, beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 in Game 7.
It’s one of those things that both feels like it was forever ago and feels like it was just yesterday, all at the same time.
Time flies, I guess.
While there hasn’t been another Cup win since then, it’s fair to say that we’ve been blessed with some pretty good hockey since then.
- 2012 - First-round exit
- 2013 - Cup Final loss
- 2014 - Second-round loss
- 2015 - DNQ
- 2016 - DNQ
- 2017 - First-round loss
- 2018 - Second-round loss
- 2019 - Cup Final loss
- 2020 - Second-round loss
- 2021 - Second-round loss
Can’t win ‘em all, but it has been fun.
It’s also somewhat remarkable that it’s been a whole decade of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and David Krejci blessing our televisions/eyeballs.
I feel old.
Anyways, this all came to mind because the Bruins announced yesterday that they’ll be airing a four-part series featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the 2011 Cup celebrations.
Episode one airs this evening at 5:30 PM on NESN, followed by June 21 (8:30 PM), July 1 (9:30 PM), and July 7 (9:30 PM).
Some people are accusing the Bruins of milking a decade-old title, but whatever. It’s fun to reminisce, and there’s nothing else going on. Let the team have some fun.
