The opening of 2021 free agency is in the books, and the Bruins sure brought their checkbooks!
While they didn’t sign any of the bigger names that had been in rumors, they certainly made a splash, signing a total of 10 contracts (one of which we already knew about) and making a trade.
If nothing else, it wasn’t boring!
The B’s went into yesterday with a checklist, and you could (kind of) argue that they checked off the must-do items: forward depth, goalie depth, and a left-shot defenseman.
My main concern is 1) they don’t have a ton of cap space to re-sign David Krejci and 2) the acquisition of Forbort, while fine, doesn’t really make their defense significantly better.
Of course, you could argue that the B’s defense, when healthy last year, was good enough to give them the upper hand in the Conference Semifinal, and that an injury to Brandon Carlo is what really derailed them.
Maybe a healthy unit with Forbort really is that much better. I guess we’ll find out!
