Morning Skate: Relief

It is over.

2021 NHL Stanley Cup Final - Game Five Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images

Well folks, let me congratulate you. You did it. You made it through the least palatable Stanley Cup Final of our lifetimes.

Our not-that-long, international nightmare is over.

The Tampa Bay Lightning won their second Stanley Cup in a row last night, finishing things with a 1-0 in a gentleman’s sweep of the Montreal Canadiens.

Glass half full: Montreal lost the Cup!

Glass half empty: Tampa won the Cup...

I can’t help but feel bad for Carey Price after last night’s game, as he played well and allowed a single goal to the league’s best team in an elimination game on the road...and lost.

Shades of Bruins-Lightning Game 7 in 2011, I guess: sometimes one goal is all it takes.

Anyways, with last night’s game, the 2021 season is in the books. While the new league year doesn’t start (technically) right away, we have, for all intents and purposes, turned the page on this season.

The 2021 buyout window opens 24 hours after the Cup Final concludes, so in theory, right around 11 PM tonight.

I wouldn’t expect the Bruins to buy anyone out this summer, but hey: stranger things have happened.

Today’s discussion topic

These daily severe thunderstorms in the Boston area have been insane. That’s not really a question, but...yeah.
