Morning Skate: Right foot

Hey, you’ve gotta start somewhere.

NHL: Preseason-Boston Bruins at Washington Capitals Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Well folks, we did it: the first preseason game is in the books!

As I mentioned last week, these games always seem to show up quickly, yet here we are: the preseason is under way.

The B’s took home the win in their first preseason contest, beating Washington 3-2 in a shootout.

This proves, of course, that the Bruins are an unstoppable juggernaut who will roll over all comers this season.

One bright spot yesterday: our man Jake DeBrusk, arguably the least controversial and most widely beloved player on this website.

DeBrusk scored in regulation and won it in the shootout; you absolutely take all preseason performances with a healthy grain of salt, but it’s good to see the kid get off to a good start.

DeBrusk appears to be coming into the season with the right mindset, saying over the weekend that he’s coming in with a clean slate and knows it could be a make-or-break year for him.

Baby steps, right?
