Game notes

  • The Boston Bruins return to home ice tonight on the heels of a four-game win streak to face the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight!
  • It’s the first time the Bruins and Penguins meet this season. It will be a while until they see each other again with the other two matches on March 9 and April 13.
  • Head Coach Jim Montgomery said Matt Poitras won’t be an option for tonight’s game as he’s still traveling back from World Juniors. He said the team will talk about integrating him back into the lineup once he gets back to Boston.
  • James van Riemsdyk enters tonight off a three-point game on Jan. 2. He’s been a big net-front guy for the Bruins and proved his worth yet again on Tuesday in Columbus.
  • According to lines from WEEI’s Scott McLaughlin from yesterday’s practice, the B’s look to roll out the lines we saw on Tuesday. Mason Lohrei was missing from practice, but it was reported he should be all set for tonight’s game.
  • The Penguins come to Boston having lost on Tuesday to the Washington Capitals following their own three-game win streak. The Pens rallied in the third to come within one score, but couldn’t complete their comeback and fell 4-3 to the Caps.
  • For the Penguins, Kris Letang has nine points in his last five games while Guentzel has three goals in his last five games.
  • The Bruins will face a Pittsburgh power play which is struggling. Their power play stands at 13.9% while the Bruins are at 27.5%.
  • See ya tonight!
