David Krejci scored a hat trick and Tuukka Rask made EIGHT BILLION SAVES (ok, 45) to give the Bruins the 4-3 win in OT.

FIRST PERIOD

The Bruins came out and struggled in the first period, allowing the Maple Leafs to go up 2-0. Unfortunate. Boston outshot the Leafs 15-8 in the first period; the chances were there. The Bruins ended the period on a power play, and from there, things got REAL.

SECOND PERIOD

32 seconds in, Patrice Bergeron made his mark on the powerplay. Sick rebound, Reimer.

From there, the Bruins began pouring it on, and the Krejci Train took over. At 12:59, from Marchand and Chara:

Minutes later, Colton Orr took a dumb penalty (ORR FOR CONN SMYTHE!) and Krejci made him pay, putting the Bruins up 3-2.

Unfortunately, the Leafs tied it up a few seconds later, and Boston proceeded to have to kill two penalties to Gregory Campbell and David Krejci, which carried over into the third.

THIRD PERIOD:

The Bruins had a four-minute power play as Nazem Kadri high-sticked Chris Kelly in the face - and couldn't convert (I see your shocked face.) The Leafs actually had the advantage in shots this period, outshooting the Bruins 14-7. Zdeno Chara took a high-sticking penalty 13 minutes into the period, but the Bruins handled it mightily.

which brings us to

OVERTIME

Tuukka Rask made 11 saves, James Reimer made eight. The play went end-to-end so fast it was practically dizzying. But finally, finally, 13:06 into OT:

It came after Dion Phaneuf decided to play the body on Nathan Horton instead of playing the puck. Pretty dumb move. Not his first of the game, either.

Bruins are up 3-1. They come home to potentially close it out Friday. Leafs fans still haven't seen a home win in nine years, or felt the thrill of an OT win in about as long.

Feels. Good. Man.

"They now have 3 games of the oh so precious playoff experience under their belts so that's gotta count for something right?"

Today we talk to frequest commenter ElSeldo, known 'round here for his Dougie Hamilton love and the blog, OHL Education. He's also a Leafs fan, so I thought we'd pick his brain for a minute ahead of tonight's game.

1. The leafs played pretty well and still lost on Monday. Think the leafs come back and win in game 4?

Absolutely they can. The Game 3 loss was a vastly different loss than the Game 1 loss. I didn't have many complaints about the lines and Gardiner looked amazing and showed how much of a dumbass Randy can be at times. Unless Randy decides to put BOTH Orr/McClaren in the line up. Then you guys can have the win. The more the Leafs lose with both in the line up, the more I hope Nonis realizes Randy needs to be fired, playoffs or not. They now have 3 games of the oh so precious playoff experience under their belts so that's gotta count for something right? As long as the B's don't score fast and first the crowd in the ACC will be something to feed off of (and I'm not a huge believer in the "7th man on the ice" theory).

2. Brad Marchand said the Phil Kessel told him he'd be ready for a fight "anytime." Do you want to see that fight happen?

If the Leafs are up be 3 goals, hell I'll welcome the game going the way of Ottawa/Montreal from Sunday, otherwise absolutely not. The last thing we need is Phil losing 5 min of ice time AND be subject to Randys bitterness and grudge holding. i know he's a believer in fighting but I doubt that would apply to Phil because nothing he does makes sense. Not to mention the risk of injury. Nope, no way, not at all, never.

3. Is it better or worse for you that Dougie isn't getting a lot of playing time against Toronto?

Dougie stopped being Dougie in January. Now he's just some guy in a Bruins sweater. His half season in Niagara he wasn't the Dougie of last season, and now that he's not one of the top players in the league, it's more challenging for him and I'm also happy he's not getting lots of ice time because draft day was bad enough, I don't need him being the one to eliminate the Leafs. I'll get enough grief from him (and Strome in Brooklyn) for the next few regular seasons. Thats why I'm happy Pietrangelo went to St. Louis, easier to cheer him on when he's not hurting the Leafs.

Thanks again to ElSeldo for taking the time!

Preview:

Only two wins to go in this series. The Bruins have four chances to get two wins, and after Monday's game, things are looking pretty good. Not great, but good.

There are flaws in the Bruins' game plan, to be sure. They got away with collapsing inward in the third period on Monday, allowing the Leafs numerous chances and not getting many of their own. Non-Vezina-nominee Tuukka Rask made 45 saves, only allowing two goals, and luckily the Bruins were able to muster enough offense to counteract the Leafs' flurry of chances.

The key to these games going forward continues to be the production of the top two lines, as always. The Leafs can't get heavy coverage on both the Bergeron and Krejci lines; if they cover one, the other must be able to pick up the slack and get pucks on net. Luckily, we've seen the Bergeron line get stifled and the Krejci line do exactly what they need to do (Milan Lucic has six assists! David Krejci has seven points! Nathan Horton has three goals! All these things were league-leading stats before last night!) in their stead; if that can continue to happen, the Bruins should be okay.
